The bottle gourd recipes are very healthy and easy to prepare. This recipe is very simple and traditional. When I am bored with sambar or other recipes but want healthy and easy recipes, I will make these kinds of recipes. I love simple recipes. From bottle gourd we can try various recipes, this is one of them.
This bottle gourd recipe is called as sorekai Bolu Huli . Sorekai means bottle gourd, Bolu means no masala, Huli means Tamarind. It is one of the very simple and not added any kind of roasted masala and heavy masala. This recipe does not require many ingredients and much time to prepare.
When I get fresh bottle gourd I will prepare this healthy recipe. We need to peel the skin if it is little grown, otherwise directly we can chop the bottle gourd. While cooking the bottle gourd added red chili powder for spiciness, jaggery for taste, turmeric and tamarind for flavor. Instead of red chili powder you can add green chili. It will give a different taste. For tadka also added crushed garlic, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
In the festival days also this recipe can be prepared. On the festival days we do not use garlic. Instead of this we can put some asafoetida. This recipe can be given in postpartum days because bottle gourd vegetable is not harmful to anyone and contains lots of water, easily digestible and not added any kind of extra masala and coconut.

- Take a bottle gourd, wash it, peel it and chop into small pieces.
- Take a vessel, add bottle gourd pieces, add enough water and cook it for 5 minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, jaggery, tamarind paste, salt and mix well.
- Close the lid and cook it until the pieces soften.
- In a tadka pan add oil, garlic, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
- Tasty simple bottle gourd Bolu is ready.
