The peperomia herb is healthy plant which is well know in the subtropical areas but not known of its uses. This recipe is an authentic and healthy too. Peperomia Pellucida Thambuli is perfect for making yourself healthy body.  It is a perfect blend with the peperomia leave, coconut, jeera and buttermilk. Seasoning is a just added extra flavour to thambuli.

Peperomia pellucida is a herb and it is called Neerkaddi in our local language. This leaves have little tangy favour. A solution of the fresh juice of stem and leaves is used against eye inflammation. It is also been applied against coughing, fever, common cold, headache, sore throat, diarrhoea, against kidney – and prostate problems and against high blood pressure. Shiny bush is also used in ayurvedic medicine.

Another name I got from research is ‘Slate pencil plant’ by this all my childhood memory comes in mind. My surprising thing is, our many ancestors also not knew about this leaves which has medicinal value.

The leaves are sometimes harvested from the wild and used locally as a food, medicine and is characterized by succulent stems, shiny, heart-shaped, fleshy leaves and tiny, dot-like seeds attached to several fruiting spikes.

  • First take peperomia pellucidia leaves clean, wash it. Take one vessel, add peperomia pellucidia leaves and put little water and boil for few minutes.
  • In one mixer jar add grated coconut, green chilly, jeera, cooked peperomia pellucidia leaves and grind it like a paste.
  • Take one bowl add grounded paste, add curd or buttermilk, little water and salt for taste.
  • Prepare tampering, In a small pan add oil, garlic, mustard, curry leaves.
  • Add tampering to thambuli, then it is getting ready to serve. You can drink or serve with rice.
