As I was staying in the Mangalore region, here i am not getting avarekaalu very easily. This avarekaalu always remain my bangalore days. This year same time i went to mysore for one function so i get these avarekaalu so taken and made beautiful recipes.  I love the texture of avarekalau and it’s good for winters.

  • In a mixer jar add coconut, green chili, ginger, garlic, clove, cinamon, star anise, coriander and a little amount of water and grind to a paste.
  • In a cooker heat oil and ghee.
  • Add jeera and bay leaf saute well until you get the aroma.
  • Add onion and saute well until it turns to semi golden color.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and ground paste of masala and saute well until the raw smell goes away.
  • Add avarekalu and mix well for a minute.
  • Add rice, required amount of water and salt and combine together.
  • Close the lid and make 3 whistles.
  • Once the cooker completely cools down, open the lid and mix once again.
  • Serve with raita or have as it is.
