Water apple fruit is one of the seasonal fruits in summer. Water apple is green in color and edible seeds are inside. This fruit is a little crunchy and sweet in taste when it is fully ripe. This fruit contains lots of water so it is a low calorie fruit. So this is one of the best local fruits in summer. Many recipes are done with green water apples, jam is one among them. I will share the complete procedure and details how I prepared the simple jam with Water apple.

My parents came to my place with this tasty fruit because they have so much there. I have eaten raw as much as possible, later what to do? At that time my mind told me Try and invent some recipes from these beautiful fruits. Same time my son also wanted the jam, everything coincidently matched and tried this recipe and the result was this jam.

Green water apples contain more water so it is a little time consuming recipe but worth a try. I cleaned every water apple and chopped and grind it like a paste. Beforehand you can steam the water apple. Any procedure is fine, I skipped the steaming and all, directly grinded and later I cooked for a few minutes until the rawness and water content was away from the paste.

Here I added Sugar for sweetness, instead of this you can add maple syrup or jaggery. I Am not sure how jaggery will work with these fruit jam i taste. Finally, I added lemon juice to balance the jam flavor.

  • Take a water apple, wash it, cut and remove seeds and make slices.
  • In a mixer jar add chopped water apple and grind it to a smooth texture.
  • Transfer the ground paste to the pan and cook it for 10 minutes.
  • Add sugar and again cook it for 15 minutes on medium flame and stir oftenly..
  • Once the cooked water apple starts to thicken add lemon juice.
  • Mix everything and cook it for a minute.
  • Tasty and delicious green water apple jam is ready.


Sugar is added according to taste.
